Rumours of new chair for Guthega

In an exclusive and wide-ranging on-snow interview , Perisher CEO Peter Brulisauer revealed the Guthega chair was a near-term focus and would vastly improve lift capacity in the area.

“We have a number of priorities for new lifts but we have completed the planning work and will lodge the development application for the Guthega quad this winter. I would prefer not to raise expectations by putting a time frame on the new lift but it is certainly a near-term plan,” said Mr Brulisauer, who has already overseen a $20 million snowmaking revolution at Perisher since 2007.

Offering spectacular views across the Kosciuszko Main Range, Guthega has long been a popular go-to area for cruisy blue-run skiing or fresh powder hits after a snowfall.

The new quad chair will replace the Cow Pastures J-bar and will whisk skiers from the base of the J-bar to the top of the Blue Cow T-bar on Guthega Peak at 1924m.

The new quad is planned to feature a loading conveyor and will allow skiers to enjoy more of Guthega. It will also provide improved access to the ski area’s signature blue-level tree-lined runs of Bloody Mary, Woodpecker, Karl’s and Schnaxl , and also to more challenging black-diamond trails like Parachute and The Screw.

With associated rock clearing around Guthega Peak, there will also be better access to the Blue Cow High Traverse, taking skiers across to Blue Cow and the Skitube.
